Luke at 12 Months! We Made It!!

Little Man Luke is a year old! Everyone always asks me if I can believe it...and my response is this: "Yes, I can!" I can believe that 12 months have gone by, I am not shocked by the amount of time that has passed or how quickly (and at times not so quickly). What I cannot believe is what Luke has been able to accomplish in 12 months...that is what is completely astounding to me. I am in awe of him...from being brought home not being able to do anything for himself to now where he gives me attitude if I try to help him with something. THAT is what is unbelievable. I am amazed by the human body and mind and marvel at Luke every single day. L and I wrote letters to Luke for his birthday and tucked them away in his baby book so I won't get too sappy in this forum. We had a little party with friends and family and I am gonna be honest...Luke was not that into it. Despite my homemade banana cake with an extremely homemade decorating job (see picture below) he would have none of it. I will defend him because he did have a fever the day before and he is still not quite himself...I am thinking those 1 year molars might be coming in. He did seem to brighten up with the presents (thata boy!) but other than that it was a bit of a struggle to keep him in the birthday party spirit. I think the rest of the kids and adults had a good time though and our little man slept through the rest of the cake eating. So, there are no classic cake face pictures but we will try again next year. Here is what we captured:

This is the extent of my "icing in a ziplock bag" artistic abilities...but, it was made with a whole lotta love!

There is just nothing like wrapping paper and ribbons!

Seriously, Elmo is a kid magnet!

Jeffrey is WAY more into the singing and candle blowing than Luke is.

You can almost see the meltdown unfolding and yes, that is me trying to force the cake (which was delicious) down his throat!

We tried again at dinnertime and it didn't work then either. I am chalking this "no cake eating" up to my good "momness" when it comes to Luke's diet. He has pretty much never had any sugar (unnatural sugar anyway). He is strictly a fruit and veggie kind of guy. I have worked really hard to serve him fresh fruits and veggies whenever possible and perhaps I have done too good of a job (this is pretty much my way of justifying his lack of excitement for the cake - I am spinning it to make myself look good...I know what I am doing and I am okay with it). :)

So, our little guy is one and he is a wonderful one year old. We are excited about what is to come but Luke has definitely taught us to live in the moment and that is such a good thing!
