My sweet L and I share a birthday month. We believe in keeping it simple as far as gifts go...we both got each other a book this year...but to instead invest in an experience and TIME with each other. Always easier said than done! Luckily Ima and Sheshy are south for a few weeks and they quickly agreed to having Luke stay with them while L and I spent 24 hours together. You have no idea how happy this makes us. Just to be together, alone, with TIME to talk, to laugh, to reminisce, to reflect, to plan, to explore, to wander, to think, to be silent. It was amazing and just what we needed and wanted. Happy Birthday to us!!!
We headed to Beaufort and if you haven't been you should put it on your travel list! A beautiful coastal town full of history and art and simplicity. A nearby state park fulfilled our wandering desire and cute shops, galleries, restaurants, and countless historic homes filled us with culture and respect for this seaside town.
Lunch waterside. Ahhhhhhhhh
There just happened to be a "come as you are" bluegrass festival where real people with a real love of bluegrass music came and joined in with friends and strangers to fill the waterfront with awesome tunes! L and I did a lot of foot tapping. :-)
Hunting Island State Park. Beautiful.
A good sized portion of the beach was full of fallen trees that not only provided a beautiful and eerie landscape but also gave us both some perspective of how mighty the weather can be and we talked about how we are a just a small piece in this awesome natural puzzle!
Gorgeous!!
A marshland hike that led us to some a friendly crabbing family using raw chicken on a string to catch their dinner! So cool! It is now on my coastal bucket list!
Meanwhile... :-) :-)
