All About ME!

It has been a pretty crap-tastic week!  :(  Schedules made.  Schedules changed.  Rescheduling attempted - not all successful.  Early mornings.  Late nights.  I had some sort of eye infection (I don't care if this grosses you out...).  Swollen shut.  Gunk galore.  Red.  Itchy - very very itchy.  No contact wearing.  Headaches. Contagious.  Stuck at the house - God forbid I share my germs with the bagger at Publix.  Luke fell.  Bloody nose.  Swollen nose.  Thunder.  Riggs flipping out.  Seriously crappy.

Now, on to something positive.  This morning!  This morning was the very best part of my week, without a doubt, even with a sore and itchy eye (although I did successfully wear my contacts for 3 hours - they haven't been in since).  Let me preface this.  I have had a challenging year.  Truly.  There have been a lot of changes, a lot of adapting, and a lot of coming to terms.  Today was a huge accomplishment for me.  I ran a 5K!! (okay, I did walk a little...but it was after I ran the first 2.2 miles and I only walked for .3 miles and then finished the race running).  Yep, I did it!  My friend J and I signed up for this race a while ago with the hopes of getting in better shape and doing our best.  We did it!  This is a bit weird for me to say but I am so proud of myself!!  It is not a surprise that I am NOT a runner.  Seriously, the only part of running I really really enjoy is the being finished with it part.  I bought my "running shoes" at Bealls and I am pretty sure they are marketed as "aerobic style."  My race day outfit was sweatpants and a t-shirt - I didn't even pull my hair back.  I just wanted to finish and not last.  Not only did I finish but I wasn't even close to being last, in fact we were in the car (after the celebratory banana and granola bar) and leaving the parking lot before the last of the lot was making their way to the finishline.  I ran more than half of the race without stopping and I didn't beat myself up for walking - I really did only walk for a few minutes and it was an uphill section (yes, uphill does exist in Florida).  I finished with a big push like all runners and pseudo runners do...I felt a little like Molly (although I assure you her running shoes don't come from Bealls)!  :)  What a rush and to be honest I got a little misty as I crossed the finish line.  It was such a big deal for me!  I am so proud of myself for weathering the storm with strength and optimism and now I am just on a roll!  Yay for me!!

J and I not even thinking about the not-so-great background of this picture.  We were just thrilled to have finished and to still be standing and smiling!

Thanks to J for being such a fantastic friend, a great motivator, a strong support system, hysterical, and a gal I admire so very very much!  Smooches to you!!
