The Day I was STUCK With

I am just now getting over this so that is the reason for its delayed appearance on the blog. LL and I spent most of the week alone and it was anything but ordinary. Tuesday was more than chaotic and I can't begin to tell both stories so I will tell the more humorous one which happened on Wednesday (it is only humorous now... 3 days later). I mention Tuesday being chaotic because it sets the tone for how much I wanted Wednesday to be calm and peaceful...just a day for mom and baby to spend quietly napping, eating, playing, reading, etc. I really needed Wednesday to be normal...for my sanity's sake. However....

The day started off well enough. Riggs was barking a little while he was outside due to some folks doing road work...just filling potholes (or so I thought). LL and I went through our morning routine and after lunch I wanted to take a mini walk with Riggs and LL. We have been trying to do this daily but since it is so sunny these days LL goes in the stroller and not the front pack (more shade in the stroller). It is manageable but we certainly can't walk like this for miles and miles (one hand on the stroller, one hand with the leash, and forever trying to get Riggs to stay to one side of the stroller...yes we look ridiculous but I love my walks so we go anyway). We don't go far and it is worth the effort in my opinion. Anyway, we make our way into the driveway and we are not two feet onto the road when Riggs takes a nosedive onto the road and rolls around in ............................. TAR!!! Yes, TAR! The road crew apparently was not filling potholes, they were instead spraying tar and then covering it with gravel...a cheap way to resurface roads I guess and since it was so hot the tar had not dried. I yanked the dog up and went into "fix it" mode. I immediately tried to pick the gravel pieces out of his fur...big mistake because now my fingers are covered with tar, as is the leash and the stroller handle. Tar on a hot day = awful! We made our way back to the porch (luckily LL is sound asleep and doesn't seem to be bothered by the hoopla surrounding him) and I race inside to grab some Dawn dishwashing liquid (I had a flashback to the Exxon Valdez oil spill coverage and remembered how Dawn was used to try and wash off all the water fowl) and get to work on Riggs. Some of it did come off, I was successful in removing the gravel bits from his fur but the tar itself was way more difficult. He hated every second of it but I didn't care in the least. Next thing I know he is limping...I check his feet only to discover they too are covered with tar and he has rocks stuck in his footpad and between his toes. Dear lord...the actual rolling around incident lasted about 5 seconds but the clean up lasted nearly 1 hour (and let's be honest...he is still not sparkling!). What in God's name would possess a dog to roll in tar?!

Nothing like being thrown into the trials of being a stay at home mom! I love my dog, just not last Wednesday. Thank goodness for both ebbs and flows because yesterday was a perfect day at home for all three of us!!
