Baby and Biggles (our dog's nickname - yes, we know his nickname is longer than his actual name).

So, Riggs and LL have a very unique relationship. LL of course is pretty oblivious to Riggs but yet he does not fuss or even flinch when Riggs gets within a centimeter of his face or feet. (Luckily Riggs has never been much of a licker - otherwise I would have to have sanitizer with me at all times to clean up the baby). Riggs on the other hand is very much aware of LL. His attitude changes by day and by the level of volume that is coming from LL. When we first brought the baby home Riggs didn't really pay much attention...I am assuming he didn't think LL was a permanent fixture in our home. However, as time has passed (LL is two weeks old today!) Riggs has taken on a new role. Whenever Riggs enters a room the first thing on his agenda is to find the baby. He just needs to know where he is. After he locates LL he just wanders away to lay down - that is the end of that. When LL starts to cry Riggs will come to inform us of the noise increase - not that we didn't hear it but it is pretty amusing to see the dog come over to us as if to say "He isn't happy, do something about it." Riggs also refuses to be the only one in the room with LL (I am fine with this because even though Riggs is the most gentle dog he is still a dog). If L or I leave the room, even if just for a second or two the dog follows. I guess he doesn't want to be held responsible for any fussiness that may happen in our absence. At night Riggs is our companion during feeding time. He will lay in the nursery next to the rocking chair until LL is back in his crib and asleep. He then wanders back to bed with us. It is actually really nice to have the company at 2am! I think they are going to be good buddies and I am glad Riggs will have a playmate who will run around with him. For now he is a watch dog and has taken on the big brother role. They tolerate each other and that is all we can ask for!
