Updates- all baby related

1. The baby has dropped! This is such a welcome feeling. I can finally tie my shoes without wincing and I can make it to the top of the stairs without heavily panting. It feels good.

2. L and I (okay it was really just me) felt the need to stock up on all those bulk items that you seem to run out of at the worst times and then it is a mad dash to the store to get them. We now have about 40 rolls of toilet paper, 30 rolls of paper towels, trashbags to last months and months, floss for a family of 14, and we might never need to buy dish soap ever again. I am certain it was overkill but I feel much better now that we are stocked up. (There is a similar trip coming up for food but I will have to have a little more self control - no need for 20 gallons of ice cream...or is there?!)

3. Our current baby (yes, the dog) is sick, very sick. Riggs hasn't eaten in over 24 hours and for those of you who know Riggs know that this is unheard of. We have had Riggs for nearly 3 years now and he has never once missed a meal, not once! The vet is hopeful (as are we) that it is just some sort of GI bug and it will make its way through his system soon enough. He is currently on some meds and a gatorade and water diet. Keep your fingers crossed that this passes soon, otherwise it is back to the vet for x-rays and such.

4. I have had an extremely easy pregnancy (thus far anyway and we are now just weeks away from delivery day) and I really have nothing to complain about but I am going to anyway. I have had the unfortunate pregnancy side effect of nosebleeds. These are no joke. They always require 4-5 tissues or at least 2 paper towels - serious gushers. They are the kind of nosebleeds where you have to stop what you are doing, there is no shoving a tissue up your nose and continuing on with the task at hand. I wouldn't mind them so much if they were to hit me while reading a book AT HOME, doing the dishes AT HOME, watching tv AT HOME...are you catching the pattern? But NO, very few strike at a time when I can handle them appropriately and calmly. Instead they happen in public, in the car, or in some other totally inapproriate place causing me to act like a spaz trying to find a tissue before the blood makes it onto my clothes. More than once I have had to pull off the road to deal with "an episode" (that is how bad they are..no driving is possible...the head needs to be tilted as far back as it will go to stop one of these bad boys). Mom has witnessed 2 episodes...ironically enough both while in Babies R Us. Hmmmmm??? I have had them in the grocery store...once while holding some leeks which I was contemplating buying but then was forced to buy just in case, besides people were staring. I have gotten one at the library where an old woman offered me her hanky...that's right, those things still exist and they will forever gross me out. A resusable tissue...I try to be environmentally friendly but it stops there for me...gross, I politely declined her offer. I have now shoved tissues into every purse and jacket I own and the car is well stocked. I said I wasn't going to complain but I just did a fine job of it don't you think?!

  1. Kim--
#2 equals nesting. Pack your bags.
#3 Riggs' issue might be anxiety. He senses changes approaching and the upset tummy is a symptom. My little Penny was deathly ill the weekend I got married (the first time.) I had been so stressed for several days--stressed enough to ditch my own wedding--and she suffered by vomiting all over the house. If I'd known then what I know now, I WOULD have ditched the wedding and taken Penny with me!
#4 It's not a complaint. Nosebleed sounds like a pretty bad symptom. Take care of yourself. Put your feet up and let Lance rub them. Love you! Can't wait to hear the good news. But you can keep birthing details to yourself. :-)

  2. You are so very very wise Ms. Creek! Seriously, it is nice to have someone else's perspective, especially someone as fabulous as you! Riggs is feeling much better but I do agree, he knows something is up. Despite my efforts to explain to him what is going to happen I think he is in for quite the shock! Sounds like animals (especially ms. penny) are very intuitive.

Please, I can barely think of birthing details myself let alone share them with anyone...you are safe there my dear friend!

Miss you tons and can't wait for you to meet the little man!

  3. My dearest K. What do you mean, "there is no need for 20 gallons of icecream? Perhaps it is not really a need but a desire that may take you to a happy place and maybe a memory or two of me! I just now heard of your wonderful news of baby on the way... I can't believe it...it seems only yesterday you were yourself just a babe, time truly does fly! I am thrilled for you and L and will keep checking in for news of this incredible experience, I am sooooo excited for you. i love you, think of you often and cherish my memories of you...they always make me smile!
