Surprise!

L and I spent our weekend on Long Island for the super secret and hush hush surprise 30th birthday party for our dear friend Irene. It was fantastic! She really had no idea that her lovely and sweet boyfriend had been planning this for over a month. L and I were not in a good position to get the initial surprise look on camera as she walked in the door but let me tell you...it was awesome! She screamed, she wobbled on her now shaking legs, and she looked as though she nearly wet herself. I asked her later about this and she said no and she is certainly the type of person that would willingly admit it. She was stunned and overwhelmed and sublimely happy! It was fantastic! There were about 30 people there and L and I made the longest trek so she was even more thrilled (another scream followed) when she finally noticed us. Hugs galore. We had delicious food, met some great people, and laughed the night away until about 2am! Shawn was gracious enough to make us pancakes in the morning to get us on our way home. It was certainly a weekend well spent and we are so glad we went. The only downfall was when Irene brought out the picture - and passed it around! - of the infamous 1920's group shot from the tire section of Sam's Club. That experience had almost been lost in my memory but now I will be reliving it for the next couple of years! Thanks Irene!!

Here are some pics from our weekend:

The beach along the Long Island Sound - walking distance from Irene's house and our holding area until party time! A beach is a beach no matter the weather :)

A pebble and shell hunter's paradise!

This photo is very normal for geologists (in fact we took 15 pictures total and 8 of them were like this)!

We tried to reenact the surprised face but this shows sheer excitement and not the excited/terrified look she actually had.
