May - Part Two

L spends May (and some of June) out west in the desert, in the mountains, in places that are vastly different than here.  With him are 2 additional instructors and a bunch of students (this year 14 of them) who need this geology field course to graduate with a geology degree.  There is such value in courses like these (I remember my own field camp fondly) and the students gain so many skills and confidence and a true sense of place.  It is also really hard and unforgiving and strenuous and uncomfortable.  No hotels, no running water, no facilities...for 5-6 weeks.  It is character building in every way.  But worth it, so very worth it!  Here's to Field Camp 2024 and L's priceless role in the course itself but also in the lives of these students.  They are so lucky!

This guy.  Doing what he loves in a place he loves.

The students doing geology! There is nothing more powerful than learning about a concept or a formation or a process in a textbook and then seeing and measuring that very same idea in nature.  Amazing!

The Salt Flats are other worldly.

Stunning

The classroom.  I mean, c'mon!

A Utah sunrise and show

The fearless and incredible leaders!  These people are like family and we could not be more grateful for who they are and what they do!

Gorgeous

Our guy.  We love him SO much!  Always smiling...even when desperately trying to hold the tent in place during a massive wind storm!

And our tradition of a "so glad to be back together" selfie

Love
