June

We have spent June here, there, and everywhere.

We started the month with a trip to New Orleans for Luke and I.  We bookended the trip with a day on each side to see Ima and Shesh and get just a little HH fix, plus Jasper got to stay a few days with his favorite humans!  Luke was able to help Ima with some painting on the roof and we got to take walks and bike rides and Luke caught some huge redfish out on the boat with Shesh and Mr. Denny.

New Orleans greeted us at the airport with a live band welcoming all of the North American International Competition Pokemon players!

It was an incredibly hot 4 days (triple digit temperatures every day) so once I got Luke settled at the convention center I tried to find some indoor places to visit, the National WWII Museum was fantastic!

A Hurricane Katrina memorial.  Both of our Uber drivers to and from the airport reflected on their Katrina experiences and it was humbling to hear their stories.

I enjoyed a classic beignet along the Mississippi River

Canal Street

The French Quarter

And a gorgeous sunset over the Savannah tidal marshes as we landed

L got home a few days before Father's Day and his Father's Day requests were kayaking in the morning and 'fancy' burgers on the grill for dinner.  Done and Done!  We had the best day celebrating our best guy! Luke found a fishing spot downstream on the river and parked his kayak for a bit.

A gorgeous morning out on the river.  This river keeps pretty much the same cool water temperature all year so there is a definite cooling effect of being out on the water versus the shoreline.  We love it!

Our tall kid is so helpful to us shorter folks these day!

A Father's Day selfie...Luke and I do not how to keep it classy!  :-)

June brings Luke's birthday!  15!!!  It is crazy and awesome and he is just the best! Happy Birthday Luke!

This was my response when L asked how I felt about having a 15 year old kid.

The birthday boy and his greatest role model
The day after his birthday this happened!  We have a licensed driver in the house.  Yikes!

Find yourself a friend you can call at 5 o'clock on a Friday on your way home from work and tell her you have chips, salsa, and carrots.  She will respond with "I have Jenga."  And 45 minutes later here we are!

Meanwhile the boys were off on a West Virginia adventure!!!

BBQ and a Coal Mine on the trip north!

This punishment list cracked me up!!  So interesting to see what the most severe infractions were!

A beautiful day on the lake in WV

Luke was very successful fishing!

Even Papaw got out on the kayak!

Wild and Wonderful

The boys also got to catch up with friends and family at a cookout at Granny and Papaw's!  There was even a 'cousins vs. brothers' shooting competition - Luke was glad to report that the cousins won. Congrats to Pete and Luke!  I know L loves to be able to see all of his family and friends and we are just so thankful for such fantastic people in our lives!

It was a very hot but very good June!  Full of love.
