Bless the Ordinary Days

I read this a while ago and I find myself thinking of it almost daily.  I want to rewrite it here...to keep...to look back on....to share.  These are the days that will forever be my favorite....the ordinary days...the days that years from now will be extraordinary and the days we remember the most.

Do not ask your children to strive for extraordinary lives.
Such striving may seem admirable, but it is a way of foolishness.
Help them instead to find the wonder and the marvel of an ordinary life.
Show them the joy of tasting tomatoes, apples, and pears.
Show them how to cry when pets and people die.
Show them the infinite pleasure in the touch of a hand.
And make the ordinary come alive for them.
The extraordinary will take care of itself.

L and I are blessed with a curious kid.  He wants so badly to be informed, to be shown.  Right now, right this very second, he is in the back yard making a "soft bed of grass in the mulch" right below our beloved and carefully watched bird nest with 4 baby house finches inside.  Luke is building this soft bed as a "landing pad" in case one of the babies falls out.  Exactly.  That is exactly what makes these ordinary days extraordinary.

The conversations are "private" but the obvious love is very much public!

April Fool's Day

I do remember the days when the slide was used as it was intended!  Geez!

My prom date!  Team Tully volunteered at the JOY Prom...an absolutely incredible production put on with love and grace so that those with mental and physical handicaps can partake in a classic right of passage for a young person.  It was amazing, truly!  The experience and the people brought us perspective, humility, and JOY.

A charity walk downtown along the river was heaven on Earth for our explorer.

L's newest trash find and makeover...BEFORE

AFTER!  Colors and Harry Potter lightning bolt per Luke's requests.

"Read to a Dog" at our local library

Luke's Easter egg hunt at school.  A preschool teacher is a very special person!

The Wildlife Center near us opened their doors to welcome all the springtime babies!  Baby squirrels, turtles, birds, raccoons, possums, snakes, etc.  An awesome Saturday morning!

A possum on a leash.  Life is complete.

The two Tullys that are NOT afraid of snakes!  ;-)

God Bless the Ordinary Days!!
