The day arrived - Luke's first day of school! He was so excited and so stinkin' cute this morning. These pictures were taken at 8:05am and he doesn't need to be at school until 8:45am (we live 5 minutes from the school). He was chomping at the bit to "get the school day started."
I approached it like a bandaid - for both his and my sake! :) I walked him to his classroom where his teacher was waiting with open arms and I said "See you soon." " Have a great day!" and "I love you!" I turned around and left without looking back. He did great! This is a big deal for us...Luke has never been in any sort of daycare, school, structured setting without me. Heck, we have only had a babysitter about 5 times since he was born. Luke and I are a team - we are together 24/7 - so this is very different but we are so proud of our little brave guy. Not gonna lie...I shed a few parking lot tears of my own (yes, Dad, just a few!) but I went on my way with a smile on my face. As my mom says: Roots and Wings.
What did I do with my 3 hours of alone time?! Get ready for a pathetic yet very true answer: I went to the grocery store! Ha! Don't get me wrong, I do have plans of walking the dam and meeting friends for coffee when Luke is in school - a bit of a high five to myself for the last 3+ years - but this grocery trip was out of necessity (we were gone for the weekend) and to be honest I had a great time! I walked slowly, I went down the linen aisle, I got cute gifts for my favorite soon to be four year old and soon to be 2 year old girls, I price shopped more than usual, and I bought lipgloss. It was a little slice of Walmart heaven. I put everything away without interruption and I even got carrot sticks cut up for the rest of the week!
Spiderman backpack - I have more pictures from this angle than anything else. :)
Ready
I thought this was a great idea and it will be so fun to collect all these signs each year and look at them again in 20 years to see what Luke has actually decided to be! I have a feeling Spiderman is wishful thinking. :)
Luke had an awesome day! He came to the car babbling away about Daniel and Ethan and twinkle twinkle little star and sitting criss cross applesauce and ms. robin and having lemonade at snacktime and ms. lisa and fun games and the playground being too wet today. It was so fantastic to hear his little voice telling us his own stories - from his own experiences - in his own school. Fingers crossed that this wonderful attitude continues.
