Alpacas:
We headed to our favorite little family petting zoo - Nanny's Zoo . Yes, the owner's name is Nanny (I am assuming and sincerely hoping that Nanny is not her actual name) and she has a variety of animals that the kids can pet, feed, and be amazed by. I have said it before and I will say it again. I can do without a petting zoo but Little Man Luke loves them. Last time we went with Aunt Daney and I didn't realize how little I was involved...I am pretty sure I just sat at the picnic table and let Daney handle all the petting zoo-ness. This time I was on the front lines. Luke and I fed the goats, horses, and guinea pigs. (Luke's favorite this time were the guinea pigs - he just sat there and pet them for about 20 minutes straight saying over and over "Guinea Pigs eat, guinea pigs eat carrots." The alpacas were a big hit and I steered us both away from the emu...those things freak me out! I forgot my camera but it was a sight to behold...20 toddlers chasing baby goats around (Nanny bravely let them run free with all the kids) and taking turns petting snakes. Also, there was a baby squirrel that seemed perfectly happy clingy to Nanny's shirt all day long. I got the "heebs" everytime I saw it! (F and M girls - please playback the memories of our own furry-tailed friend!)
Cupcakes:
I try not to give Luke too much sugar. In fact his usual intake of sugar consists of pineapple. I just don't want him to get too used to sugar too soon. Let's face it, sugar is delicious and I am fearful he will learn this too soon and be demanding donuts and cotton candy daily. Therefore, Team Tully is sparing in the sugar category. I suddenly feel the need to defend myself, we do allow him to have the occassional treat - but it is just that - a treat, not a gaurantee. Luke has consumed 2 cupcakes and 2 cookies already this week and it is only Thursday morning. Yes, that is A LOT!!! Ms. A brought Luke a cupcake on Monday to try and win him over (he takes a while to warm up to people - I am okay with that). It worked - he now asks for Ms. A nearly everyday and is convinced that every minivan that goes down our street contains Ms. A, a cupcake, and a wormy (another gift). We went to the grocery store yesterday. I usually try to bypass the bakery section but I needed some soon to be bad bread (you know the whole loaf that is reduced to like 19 cents) to feed the ducks so it was unavoidable. The baker rushed out and handed Luke a cookie that was made to be consumed by Cookie Monster himself - it was huge! He of course batted his baby blues and chomped away. I am in the last isle picking up some yogurt and a male baker appears - he is nearing the 90 mark in age - and says he has been "chasing" (again, he was 90) us through the store to make sure Luke got a cookie. Nice, so nice. I just can't say no to a 90 year old man with a bakers hat and white crocs that his granddaughter bought him (I know this because he commented on how he and Luke have the same shoes - Luke's are blue). THEN... Wednesday evening rolls around and Ms. J and M wander down to hang out and play (Luke is in love with M - seriously...this is his first crush...I am sure of it!). And what does she have...a cupcake. Chocolate, with chocolate icing, and sprinkles. Need I say more?
Yummy!
"M, isn't sugar the best thing ever?!"
Bees: Ken, the beekeeper, was back this week and we are now in the "transfer" process. This man is so cool and knowledgeable, and I invited him for dinner (he graciously denied us). We love him, we all do...even Riggs came around. L came home early to meet Ken (or "beeteeper" as Luke calls him) and he never left his side. Seriously, this guy will suck you into his bee world and you will be wearing black and yellow the next day without even noticing it. He has us - hook, line, and sinker. There is now some sort of mesh funnel and a bee box out there. I have no idea what is going on because I was in charge of making sure Luke was not "petting" the bees. If you have questions please direct them to L.
"Beeteeper" Ken hard at work
I am so glad he wore this hat - it could have been just anybody without the hat.
This is our current front entrance decoration.
Ducks:
One of the group playdates this week was to go to the local park to feed the ducks. Not gonna lie, I was very apprehensive about this for several reasons. 1. I am not a duck fan. However, I don't want my duck prejudices to be passed on to Luke so I had to put on a brave face and a fake "I love ducks" voice. 2. Luke thinks all animals are to be touched and hugged. ALL animals. Please refer to Nanny's squirrel. 3. These ducks are not cute. We have a lovely books like "A Cuddle for Little Duck" and "Fix-it Duck" that Luke adores and asks for nearly nightly. These ducks don't look like Little Duck and Fix-it Duck. They look like they need duck makeovers - some are black and have huge rough and bumpy nodules on their heads...you know....only a face a mother could love. 4. Feeding a duck is not like giving Riggs a treat. I was afraid Luke would not master the art of throwing the bread versus just leaving it in his hands. Let me tell you this, I had NOTHING to worry about. Luke did indeed throw 2 pieces of bread to the ducks. Then he sat his cute little butt on the ground and ate the bread himself. He just watched everyone else feed the ducks. I was thrilled!
Luke getting the concept of feeding ducks!
"Hmm...I think I will just watch everyone else."
While Luke is looking away "Wingman K" moves in for a snack.
"Seriously, why would I want to give this to the ducks?"
"Told ya this is a better thing to do with the bread! When I'm right, I'm right!"
Just watchin' and eatin'
FINALLY, Luke manages to find some energy to feed the ducks!
Water Park:
Immediately following the strenous duck feeding/Luke stuffing his face, we headed over to the splash park. One of my favorite parts of our little town. Luke had a great time! He loves this place! He did, however, spend most of his time on this particular trip flirting with L's daughters. I don't blame him, they are beyond adorable and very chatty, he was in heaven. He and his wingman K just hung out with the ladies basking in the Florida sun.
What a lucky guy!
Discussing things with "Wingman K"
Luke's Crush:
This is serious. Luke is obsessed with our neighbor M. (Ms. J's daughter). M is 5 years old and looks pretty much exactly like Pippy Longstocking. She has red hair for days and the most freckles I have seen since the last time I have seen KMW in a bathing suit. HA! She is so sweet to Luke and they hold hands wherever they go. Luke gets M to do the stuff he can't (my little manipulator) like turning on the faucet outside. They got soaked and M "washed' all of our outside toys while Luke brought her "wet washcloths" (i.e. his t-shirt and shorts). She makes him belly laugh and they chase each other like that is the greatest game on earth. So so so cute! Luke asks for M when he wakes up after his nap and every time we see a black SUV. M and her family are coming for dinner tonight so hopefully we can get the cute couple to pose together!
HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!
We are thinking of you Papaw! We love you lots and lots!
Oh, and yes, Jacob is still around!
