Ahoy! Team Tully is back from our first ever family cruise – a first for all three of us. We sailed on the brand spankin’ new Disney Dream (and by “brand spankin’ new” I mean “BRAND SPANKIN’ NEW!” We were on its third voyage ever!!). The ship is absolutely incredible, words and even pictures can’t really describe. We were constantly in awe that we were indeed on a boat. We felt like we were in some other world…truly magnificent! We sailed to Nassau and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. Oh dear lord….it was….AWESOME! Seriously, now I know why there are people out there who have done 100+ cruises in their life. It was amazing and we just had the best time! No joke, L was looking online last night (we got home yesterday at about noon) at cruise options to book our next one. We are hooked…a big mouse with big ears and duck with the fluffiest of feathers will do that to you! I have a million and seven pictures so I tried to condense (fair warning…I didn’t condense too much so prepare your retinas for picture overload). But before the photos (they are Part Two) – which don’t even do this mighty ship justice- here are some highlights, in no particular order:
1. The Characters: Apparently Luke is very particular about which characters he would grace with his presence. The ultimate Mickey Mouse simply got a “Hi Mickey Mouse” with absolutely no interest in getting within a 10 foot range of the big eared fellow. The same went for Minnie, the princesses, and Chip and Dale. Goofy was of more interest, “Goofy, Goofy, Goofy” being shouted over and over with a mile wide smile. But again, no interest in meeting him face to face. However…Pluto and the ducks, both Donald and Daisy were a different story! We could barely keep Luke in line as we waited our turn to have a picture taken. As soon as we lost a grip on him he was off running into someone else’s picture! When it was our turn he was giving out high fives left and right and telling Donald that he had a beak and Pluto that he had a nose. When Pluto made kissing noises Luke informed him that he was “sniffing” and that Riggs sniffs too!
2. The Food: umm…YUMMY! L and I dined on everything from sea bass to escargot. Luke enjoyed everything from salmon to ice cream. Oh, the ice cream…24 hours a day ice cream at the ready. Heaven.
3. Jorge – aka Hor-HEY: There is a team of people that served us throughout our voyage but the favorite was Jorge from Spain. Luke was obsessed with him and Jorge had trouble doing his job because he was requested so often by little man Luke. “Hi Hor-HEY”, “Thank you Hor-HEY”, “Ketchup please Hor-HEY” (ketchup was of course dispensed in the iconic Mickey Mouse shape), and “High five Hor-HEY!”. It was so cute and on the way home in the car: “Mommy, where Hor-HEY?”
4. Nemo: Because Luke is not potty trained he wasn’t allowed in any of the pools but he barely even noticed there were pools because Disney of course thought about the diaper clad passengers and created a Finding Nemo paradise splash area. Luke asked for Nemo (pronounced Imo, not to be confused with Ima) as soon as he woke up each morning and it was our first stop after breakfast each day. It was a water-loving kid’s dream…and L and I liked it a whole lot too!
5. Off the ship: Our ports of call were fantastic, Nassau is beautiful and so different from our little Florida town. Luke was amazed by the “baskets” (the famous straw market) and the “horses, buggies, horses” (police on horseback and tourist carriage rides). Castaway Cay was perfection, heaven on earth, our very favorite part of the whole trip. Luke is a beach boy for sure. Not a single fuss was made, not a tear was shed…sand, water, umbrella shade, and of course ice cream make for a very very happy Luke. Paradise.
6. The “blowhorn”: Our ship’s horn would sound when we arrived and when we were leaving the ports. This is no ordinary ship so of course the horn was not the usual long, low tone. Our horn played “When you wish upon a star” and “It’s a small world”. No, I am not kidding, is that not the best?!
7. The Dance Party: Okay, so we don’t really have pictures of this because, not gonna lie, L and I were simply amazed by our little dance machine. The billing was for a dance party with a few select characters. Well, lucky us…one of the characters was Pluto! Luke went nuts! There must have been 30+ people on the dance floor…young and old and Luke just ran out there and was shakin’ his booty like he owned the place. Pluto got all up in his grill for a few seconds and our little boy was in “I am at a dance party with Pluto…my life (at 19 months old) is complete” bliss!). As I was putting away laundry when we got home Luke looked at the stereo and asked for a “dance party”…so we had one…minus Pluto :(
Ugh, there are a million more stories, funny comments, and fantastic fun to share but just know that we had a great time and it was so nice to get away!
PS. Luke slept from 7:15pm to 8:00am last night – if that isn’t a sign of a wonderful vacation then I don’t know what is!
Scroll down for some pictures of our wonderful trip!
