Let me be honest. I was anti-moms group at first. I didn't really get it. I was fearful of being part of a group that would tell me how to raise my kid and judge me for not succumbing to the "must have" wipe warmer and Bumpo. I did indeed want to make friends who have kids, I needed more people to relate to, but I did not want the crazy moms. I wanted to meet people who I could be friends with and not just because my kid plays trains with their kids. You get me?!
Let me tell you this...I LOVE MY MOMS GROUP! Loud and clear...I love them! I have met some amazing women who love their kids unconditionally, who have a wide spectrum of parenting techniques, who never judge, who give advice only when asked, who laugh, who can hold an entire conversation without mentioning their kids' names, who can drink, who can discuss politics and diapers all in a 15 minute span, who are kind, who are generous, who make my mommy-role so much easier and fun because I have them in my life. We do all the traditional playdates like: meeting at someone's house, the playground, the Children's Museum, and arts and crafts get togethers. But we also do the non-traditional like: ladies night happy hours, book club, kid and mom pen pals (this is one of my favorites!), and wine extravaganzas!
I have gained friendships that I know will last forever and Luke has come out of his shell and learned to socialize and truly play with others. It is a wonderful gift to be able to provide my son a chance to meet so many different kids from different backgrounds. He knows his friends' names and asks for them when we are not together. It warms my heart and I know I am doing something good. My moms group is made up of truly incredible women who just happen to be amazing moms.
If you are waivering...don't....just do it....join a group! :)
