Since Luke is now very, VERY mobile he has a few destinations of choice. Here they are in no particular order:
1. The fireplace: it amazes me how he seems to know which locations offer the most danger. We have never really called attention (positive or negative) to the fireplace yet he seems to gravitate (at sometimes very rapid speeds) to this location. We don't use our fireplace often but we of course deter him from visiting it by using the word HOT over and over (and over and over and over).
2. The floor vents: I am sensing a theme with these last two...perhaps he is trying to tell us he is cold. In our house?!?! No... Listen, we are known (it is a Sunderlin trait and I am damn proud of it) for keeping our house on the chillier side...for numerous reasons really, number 1 being that we can't afford to heat this place properly. But I am convinced that our chillier (it is not like we can see our breath but Luke does wear two pairs of pants) house is the reason that we rarely get colds or other airborne illnesses - nothing can live long enough in these temps. Anyway, back to Luke. I think the shiny factor is big on this one...those floor vents glisten in the sun and they do make some noise so that is exciting too. When he gets there he stares into the duct depths and basks in the warm air that blows his ever-increasing hair.
3. Riggs. Of course. I don't blame him with this one. Riggs is a large target, he is furry, he is soft, and he usually tolerates Luke's very antimated excitement at his presence. There have been a few ocassions however when Riggs sees Luke crawling in his general direction and he takes off which leaves Luke with a bewildered look on his face and Riggs breathing a sigh of relief.
4. My leg or arm or whatever body part is closest. Luke is loves to attempt to climb up on things and he will always get a little help from mom or dad so if we are laying down on the floor with him he makes a beeline for us to get some help with standing. Too cute and I already love being his support system.
Other than the big red chair (probably because it is big and red) those are the hotspots for now. He is still not as fast as us so we have a pretty good handle on things but I am looking into the future and I feel like I need to start stretching now to keep up with this little guy.
