I wanted to update the blog before the holidays and was going through pictures thinking I would make two posts but I got lazy and decided to put it all into one. I'm sorry or you're welcome. Fall is my favorite season. There is so much going on, so many events and activities, we don't sweat quite as much as the weather slowly starts to give us a break, and there is just something about a change in seasons that brings me joy. Welcome to Team Tully's Fall:
Every Saturday downtown has a huge farmer's market. We certainly don't go every Saturday but we make sure to visit at least once during the fall season. Luckily in the south we get two growing seasons for most fruits and vegetables so there is always plenty of bounty to choose from!
Luke continues to shine in the Pokémon world. This is his local location and group and we are so thankful he has a place nearby to play and practice. He is now in the adult (Masters) division and that is a whole new world and much more challenging, but he is doing great!
Luke went to a tournament in Pittsburgh with a friend and it was the weekend before L's birthday so I asked him what he would like to do for his birthday....kayaking it was! We had a great time paddling on what we thought was a perfect weather day. Spoiler alert...it was not. Here I am, ready to go. We went to the upstate to this beautiful and very deep lake...lots of scuba diving classes and excursions were going on.
Gorgeous and a fairly tough paddle. This lake is Huge, this lake is Deep, this day was Windy. But we knew there were some waterfalls that we could kayak to across the lake so off we went.
So windy, a couple white caps even. We ended up kayaking 12 miles! All smiles on the way to the waterfalls but see those clouds?! Those big, beautiful, bright, puffy clouds??? They turned bigger and darker and covered the sky in a record short amount of time. There are zero pictures of our way back to the launch site because we were paddling for our lives...literally! So much thunder, so much lightning, so much wind. I have never paddled so hard in my life! So wild!
We almost made it. The skies completely opened up as we were dragging the kayaks out of the water. We got SOAKED. As you can see, L took one for the team and told me to get in the car as he finished up tying the kayaks down. (please note, I did offer to help as I was already soaked and in my bathing suit anyway but always the gentlemen he told me to get in the car).
This guy...absolutely soaked and still smiling.
Pumpkin bread season - chocolate chips for the boys, plain for me.
Homecoming 2025. This group of kids is the greatest! I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to see your kid surround himself with such wonderful peers. This friend group is such a delight!
Luke and Porter
Luke and William - a hilarious duo
Ha!
If you are a runner and live in the south you know that this is our peak season. From November through March is our time to shine and races start to fill our calendars. Early morning long runs are either foggy and moody like this one or....
....crisp and cool with beautiful sunrises like this one.
And this one. Simply gorgeous and such a joy to be out there on the open road with temperatures that feel fantastic and a body that still works. Grateful.
Team Tully made our way to Wisconsin on a multi-faceted trip. Luke was playing in a Pokémon tournament in Milwaukee on Saturday and Sunday. L has a great friend turned colleague at the University of Wisconsin - Madison and Luke is interested in UW so we took a day on the front and back end of the tournament to see what WI has to offer. The tour at UW-Madison was fantastic! What a beautiful school in a wonderful city. Luke loved it!
Such a gorgeous campus right on a lake! And yes, we are very aware that we were there in October on what L calls a "chamber of commerce day" and not in the middle of January when this scene is undoubtedly much much different but Wow!
We met up with L's friend Christina for lunch in the student center and she was happy to add her view on the campus and University. She teaches in the geology department and said if Luke ends up choosing UW she would be happy to be a friendly face and someone he can go to. So sweet and a reassuring offer for L and I!
Once we got Luke settled on opening day of the tournament L and I went for a long run all up and down Lake Michigan. So pretty! We really do enjoy our urban wandering while Luke is busy doing what he loves.
Our guy, doing his thing - with 4,000 other people.
A friend of mine who is also the mom of a highschooler sent me this...SO true!
Every single day Jasper and I walk in the woods. This matters so much to both of us.
I spent Halloween with these two cuties! Evelyn and Mia were trick or treating masters and we had such a fun time! These ages (6 and 4) are so much fun on Halloween!
Meanwhile, back at home, Luke and Porter went to a Halloween party as Curious George and the Man in the Yellow Hat. Adorable.
Luke and some of his best friends were inducted into the National Honor Society. So proud of him and his hard work!
My dear friend, Melanie, and I try to get together a few times a year and we try to find a spot about midpoint from both of our cities. This time we ended up in a small town that was advertising an event called "Coffee and Clucks" and it was an immediate "yes" from both of us. This could not have been a more random Saturday morning but if you know the history of Melanie and I and our travels and adventures then this rendezvous will not surprise you at all. We assumed this 'coffee and clucks' event was being held at a farm - it was someone's backyard. It was hilarious and wonderful and very much 'us'. Also, this turkey is the biggest turkey I have ever seen.
Also, if you know me well you know that I am pretty much only a fan of dogs. That's about it in the animal world. So for me to be up close and personal with these farm animals was asking a lot and the other patrons found my nerves and discomfort pretty hilarious. However, this gal, was up close and personal with them all...from goats to alpacas to chickens. Melanie is a special kind of brave.
Hahaha! Look how far away I am.
I get that they are pretty cute but I can happily live the rest of my life without petting an alpaca.
Luke and his group of friends had Friendsgiving and had a blast. Luke and William signed up to bring homemade mashed potatoes. What an adventure that was but there were a few leftovers and I can attest that they were delicious!
So, as we head into the busy holiday season we are wishing you all health and happiness and love and laughter. The holidays can sometimes feel overwhelming but as with most things we do our best to keep things simple and to remind ourselves that Time is really the best gift of all. So, we are hoping you all have time with the people you love most during this season. Happy Holidays from us to all of you!
