Virginia Love - K and L

While Luke was enjoying time in PA with this cousins and Uncle Mit and Aunt Molly we decided to fill our time with epic hikes, great paddles, and quiet nights.  We got up early to either run or slowly drink coffee out on the deck and then we adventured.  Balancing our love of hiking with river kayaking and tubing and dinners cooked at home - it was a perfect few days just the two of us!

Our first of many hikes together.  Once you climb high enough there is a constant breeze and of course the beautiful views!
I will spare you about a million selfies and just use this one.  This guy is the most loving, most supportive, most adventurous, most understanding, most fun person on the planet.  He is the 'most' of all the good things!! Love

We also have a lot of pictures like this one and the next one - where one of us photographs the other without their knowledge.  I kind of love it though...always in awe of these places you can get to if you just put on some boots and climb.

Awe

So gorgeous!

We made it to the top!  This hike wasn't hard, steadily uphill but not difficult and what a view!

L and I took a day trip to Harpers Ferry, WV!  What a cool little town FULL of history.  Harpers Ferry played a huge role in the Civil War and learning about the stories and people was so interesting.  My favorite history lover read just about every sign and placard and was totally in his element.

A cute town
The Appalachian Trail headquarters!  Such a fun stop...we got to talk to an older gentleman named Wendell and he was so full of knowledge and interesting tidbits about the trail and those who wander it.  He has done over 600 miles of it and now serves as an ambassador for thru-hikers and novice hikers alike.
We made sure to hike a couple miles in both directions just for fun!

Harpers Ferry is home to the confluence of the Shenandoah River and Potomac River.  We saw some rafters and kayakers float by.

This hike!  L and I hiked to the summit of Old Rag in Shenandoah National Park.  It was awesome!  It was hard and there were tons of rock scrambles and bouldering but we LOVED it! It was a gorgeous day and our hiking hearts were so happy!

A bit of a 'choose your own adventure' with all of the boulders.
Awesome hiking treasures like this passageway!  (for the geology enthusiasts there were quite a few basaltic dikes to be found)

Action shot!
So many amazing views!!

At the top!

We also tubed and kayaked and read books and ate early breakfasts and late dinners.  We had time and we were grateful!
