More Fall Goodness

I wanted to try to post one more time before the holiday season and the busyness that comes with it.  We have been so busy this fall, the good kind of busy.  The kind of busy that we sign up for, that we get invited to, that we want to take part in.  We do also have slow days and evenings too, for example as I type it is 5 o'clock on a Tuesday evening and I am in my pajamas already because we don't have any commitments tonight.  That also feels really good.  We hope that all of you are enjoying this time of year as well.  I just love the cooler temperatures, the cozy house feel, and the people, places, and projects that fill our minds, bodies, and hearts.  Grateful indeed.

Pictures never do it justice, but gosh it is pretty on my wooded walks!

Mock Trial day!  Luke getting last minute pointers from L on the whole tie tying thing.  Luke looked so professional!  WE rarely get to see him dressed up so although he would rather be in shorts and a t-shirt it was nice to see our handsome guy all dressed up.

The Mock Trial dream team!  13 girls, 2 boys.  Just the greatest bunch of 13 and 14 year olds.  They did an amazing job representing their school, their coaches, their families, and most importantly themselves.  They were so supportive of each other and just kind and lovely humans.  It was a joy and an honor to watch them in the courtroom!

Luke in action.  He was a defense attorney in a voluntary manslaughter case.  It was so interesting and fun to watch.  Their coaches (1 teacher and 1 actively practicing lawyer) did a great job preparing these kids!

The defense team!!

It was so wonderful for L and I to see Luke in such a different environment.  He did amazing and we are so proud of him!

These handsome fools ran a 10k and won the team competition!  L got 3rd place in his age group!

This is sort of the yin and yang of our Saturdays...active mornings and Pokemon afternoons

Luke's requested after school snack.  Grilled fish, carrots, and naan.  It seems like an entire dinner but 2.5 hours later he ate a dinner as well.  This kid is growing like a weed.

A lunch date with one of my very favorite people!  Erin had an appointment near us and I am so thankful that she wanted to spend her time passing through with me!  You know you have a true friend when lunch lasts for 2.5 hours!

L with the back to back weekend 10k's.  Such a trooper!  Although this is nothing to him.  I, on the other hand, have been working really hard to get to this point.  I did it!  I ran my heart out and I was really proud of myself.  Our Saturday afternoon consisted of Pokemon of course.

And then...Saturday night L and I got to be fancy.  Or as fancy as we get.  We were invited to a surprise birthday party for my dear friend LaShawn.  The invitation said that the requested attire was "semi-formal".  No joke, L and I both said "what does that mean?"  Ha!!  This is what we came up with. A date night of dinner and dancing...such a fun treat!

Here she is, the birthday girl! I love LaShawn, she is one of my dearest friends!  She is hilarious, she is kind, she is generous, and she is just SO MUCH FUN! She means the world to me and I am so thankful that we met in the preschool parking lot over 10 years ago.  She is a constant in my day to day life and I value her more than she will ever know.

Science fair project on a Sunday morning.  Don't even get me started on science fair projects.  You would think that having a science background means I love science fair projects.  You would be wrong.  Ugh!  They are the bane of my existence.  At least now Luke does them entirely independently but still...nope.

Sunday Game Day with one of our very favorite families!  We played ping pong, Left Right Center, What Do You Meme, and this version of Pictionary!  Thanks to L for his rigging up of our "easel". We had so much fun!!

Two 13 year olds and an 11 year old can do some serious damage to the dinner buffet.  Yikes!

And just so you know it is not all rainbows and roses over here:  our washing machine is broken,  my car is making weird noises (that is as technical as I can get), Luke crashed his bike and bent the frame (Luke is fine, the bike is not), Luke's 100 year old bed broke,  and I pulled something in my back dancing last Saturday night (I need to come to terms with my age and that my stellar dance moves from 20 years ago just don't translate to now).  So, as always, life is full of peaks and valleys.

So there you have it.  Mostly good and some not so good.  But we choose to concentrate on the good and gosh we are fortunate to have SO MUCH good in our lives.  As we approach Thanksgiving in a few days I just want to say that I am thankful for this space; for these memories to have a home.  This is our life story and I couldn't be more grateful for all the characters that are a part of it.  Thank you.

Happy Thanksgiving!
