Tomorrow. Tomorrow is the first day of school. Wow. Where did the summer go?!!? It FLEW by. In a blink of an eye we are fourth grade bound. Yikes. I had a friend stop me yesterday on our dog walk and we chatted briefly about time. She has a 7th grader and a junior in high school. She said time goes by even faster as they get older. How is that possible?? Time. We certainly made the most of it this summer. I was pleased with the balance of adventures and days at home. A summer well lived!
We had a lovely Charlie exchange weekend at Aunt Daney and Uncle James' house with the cousins! Lake fun for hours and hours on end!
Lunch Lakeside
Our favorite twins came over for a Meteorology and Atmosphere Day! Hooray for learning by doing!
Anemometers and an occasional breeze for the win!
Making our own cumulonimbus clouds!
Please forgive me! I cannot for the life of me turn this and the next photo around!! Tilt your head and take a good look because it is SO worth it!!! These two! Luke and Mallory. A beautiful friendship!
LOVE
We so enjoyed our time with one of our favorite families! We are so happy for them and their new adventure in life. Their patience and trust has certainly paid off and they are living the dream!
MESSY CAMP
(7th annual!!!!! What?!)
I mean, how can this not be a good time!
Zoo day with these fantastic kiddos!
One of the zoo's newest additions, a baby boy gorilla. Can you stand the cuteness?!
James Day. We hit up the library, Chick fil A, and bowling.
Luke and B were assigned an owl project for the summer. They had a month to choose an owl species, research it, write a report, and draw a picture. We met for the kids to present their papers and to do some projects. They both did a really awesome job with this, Steph and I were super impressed!
After their research paper presentations they dissected owl pellets. aka...owl vomit. Nothing like some owl barf on a Wednesday afternoon! They LOVED it!
And we wrapped up the day by making owl cookies. Amie's sugar cookie recipe has graced our kitchen table so often. Makes me smile!
Jed Day! Trampoline park, snocones, and backyard play. A GREAT day!
We sure do love our local library and all the programs they offer! Birds of prey! SO cool!
And luckily my BFF/bodyguard LaShawn was nearby to protect me from these birds. ;-)
Luke went to Ima and Sheshy's for a few days! He LOVED his time with his grandparents! L and I joined them for the weekend but just look at what he accomplished! Grandmother patience is no joke! Luke learning to sew at the machine....wait until you see what he made!
Mini piano lessons to be transferred to the big one at home.
Captain Sheshy and First Mate Luke. These two could fish a lllllllllllll day!
Luke made an apron!!! Can you believe that??! So thankful to Ima and her sewing knowledge and PATIENCE to create such a masterpiece with this very proud and grateful 9 year old!
Yes, that's a gator
Thank you, L for capturing this gem...9 years old...still a little boy. :-)
Sharks
Summer chores
An afternoon with this kid! Luke's BFF. They have similar minds and interests and it is a joy to watch them together. Silly boys!
Making minnow traps. Every single one was SUCCESSFUL!!
More neighborhood fishing expeditions.
Jasper turned 3. A spoonful of vanilla ice cream and a dog treat. We sang.
Arty Party with the twins! Kimberly planned an awesome day with the boys creating and being artistic! She is a very talented artist and I am so thankful that she was willing to share her talent with Luke. They made bath bombs and did some tie dyeing magic!
We did something similar with Steph too. She is an extremely talented photographer and Luke spent a day with she and Becca creating some really awesome photos and she even taught him some photo editing software. Amazing opportunities for this kid and we made it a point to discuss how awesome it is that the world is full of people with different talents than our own. (now, if I can just figure out how to get some of those fancy photos he took with Steph onto the blog I would be set)
A super awesome pillowcase that we washed and immediately packed for.......
...Camp with Daddy!!!! :-) These two spent 2 days living the summer camp dream! Kayaking, paddle boarding, blobbing, archery, rifle shooting, slip and slide, basketball, horseback riding, soccer, obstacle course, s'more making, fireworks, and most fantastic of all....TIME with each other.
The favorite for both...the gigantic slip and slide! Simple summer pleasures!
A natural
More zoo babies! The lioness had 3 lion cubs and we were lucky enough to see them out and about on one of our summer zoo trips!
Small critter day at the pet store! Luke and C are huge animal lovers so this was perfect for the two of them! A ferret.
A one-eyed mouse..Wink.
Luke, C, and a guinea pig
It is SO hot here in August so Luke and I made our way to Goodwill and bought an old VHS camcorder (remember those?). The kids came in from the backyard for some heat relief and took that thing apart in no time! So cool checking out the innards!
Their minnow traps are so successful that they tried a more challenging technique. Ha!
Dave and Busters. Wow. Overload for the senses. Not my scene at all but the boys had fun!
Lazy Sunday with the pups :-)
Our little rock climber
We met up with the Retey crew! Yay!!!! We spent all day at this awesome waterpark! The kids had a BLAST and Lisa and I were able to catch up. It was such a great way to wind down the summer...having a GREAT time with people we LOVE! This family is so full of spunk and joy and we had a fantastic day!
