Comparing and Contrasting

A few months ago (we started before school let out) I put together a list of classic books (some of which we had already read) that have been made into movies.  I thought of it as a great way to read through the summer and a great way to teach the concepts of comparing and contrasting and discussing what makes a good book and a good movie.  We have all REALLY enjoyed this project and we have made our way through some awesome books and some pretty great movies.  My favorite part is hearing Luke's take on everything.  He is a smart kid and of all the books we have read and movies we have seen he has only ONCE like the movie more than the book.  His critiques are genuine and legitimate!

Here is our completed (read the book and watched the movie) list so far:
(In most cases we chose the most original version of the movie)

Stuart Little
Pippi Longstocking
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
James and the Giant Peach
The Good Dinosaur (this is the one where he liked the movie better - the only one where the movie was made first!)
Charlotte's Web
Mary Poppins
Horton Hears a Who
The Lorax
Gullivers Travels
Mr. Poppers Penguins
Holes
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

**We have read The BFG, Around the World in 80 Days, and The Little Prince but have not yet seen the movies**

A surprise gift from a dear friend after searching long and hard for a copy!  Thank you, G!

Watching Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea - at times wishing we were aboard the Nautilus!
