Daney came to visit for a few days and we loved having her! I usually have a plan when guests come to stay (get ready my sweet Melanie!) and this time was no different. Let me just say that very little went according to plan. I am pretty sure we can blame Luke for most of it but Mother Nature played her part as well. I was very impressed with how well Daney rolled with the punches. She stayed calm, cool, and collected and didn't even balk at making countless dinosaurs out of Play Doh.
Monday: Daney arrived while Luke was napping - perfect planning. Luke didn't scream in her face when he came down from his nap which was lovely. We played. Homemade pizza for dinner. L watched Luke while Daney and I went to heaven IKEA. Oh how we love IKEA. I mean, where else can you get a whisk for 49 cents and a stuffed kangaroo for 1 dollar. I bought a bookcase and some colorful bins for my attempt at revamping the playroom (perhaps a post for a later time?). I also bought 2 red pottys....that's right...it is on the horizon at the Tully household. Prayers and fingers being crossed would be appreciated. Daney bought way more "I am a stylish gal still in my 20s (although not for long) and I have dinner parties with fabulous people" things such as, printed napkins (I got plain white) and glass candle sticks (I love them but will not be buying them for another 4 years ....at least).
Tuesday: Luke woke up not feeling well. I know this because of the snotty nose and coughing fits. No fever just attitude and whines. We braved a trip to a local children's museum that I got a deal on with a groupon. We came, we saw, we left. Thank goodness I had a groupon that got us all in for 5 dollars because it wasn't worth much more than that. Luke had spurts of enjoying himself but mostly he fussed and screamed and cried. Daney put together the bookcase I bought at IKEA. Yup, is that a great sister or what?! I think she got the better end of the deal anyway. Luke vs. the bookcase? Kind of a no-brainer with my little man being so grumpy. Luke took a great nap. It helped...some. Chinese for dinner. Dance party! Best part of the day!
Wednesday: Cancelled playdate at our house. Luke was still sick...cough was worse, nose still gross. Raining on and off. We decided to make cookies. Off to the store for supplies, got SOAKED putting the groceries and Luke in the car. Luke was fussy and pathetic ALL DAY LONG! A romantic sunset cruise around Tampa Bay was scheduled. Daney offered to babysit (wait, that is a lie...I called Daney to ask her to babysit, she said "ok" in a barely audible voice...we will take it!). Fast forward....Daney and I boarded a romantic sunset cruise (wine included)! L became an overprotective Daddy and wanted to stay home with Luke. Perhaps a good idea because Daney and I were at our wit's end. So off we went..lovely people, lovely captain, lovely concept...not so lovely weather. We sailed around for about 20 minutes before the Florida skies did their Florida thang and opened up! We were soaked, the captain passed out ponchos that I am sure had been in their bin for decades. We parked under a bridge hoping it would pass It didn't. We made a break for it back to our port. We got a raincheck. L can come next time! Win - Win!! Daney and I got out of the house and L didn't miss out on the cruise after all.
Thanks to Daney for weathering the storm so well...figuratively and literally! We love you!
Why we got on the boat in the first place is beyond me!
Wearing a poncho brought me back to family vacations when we were young. Our parents didn't believe in raincoats until we stopped growing. Less money spent on ponchos that you could wear for a longer period of time. I get it now but all I wanted back then was a raincoat with ladybugs on it. (sorry for the double chin, Daney was approximately 2 inches from me and I had no where to go).
Daney would like everyone to know that she is fully aware that yellow is not her color but "beggars can't be choosers".
