Happy Halloween and a Rookie Mistake

First of all, let me share some Halloween memories of my own.  My mom is a Halloween fantatic...seriously, borderline wackadoo but we all love it and we love to see the newest additions to her witch collections each year.  I remember Sloppy Joes, the pretrick-or-treating meal of champions.  I am pretty sure we never had Sloppy Joes any other day of the year (I have no idea why not...they are totally underrated!).  I also remember the costumes, most lovingly homemade and perfect.  I remember having discussions with family and friends about how we needed to make sure the witch costume would fit over a sweatshirt and sweatpants and about how hard it would be to dress up as a ballerina and stay warm enough.  Fast forward 20 years.......to K. Tully making a rookie mistake in the inaugural Halloween in Florida.  Let's take a look via pictures, shall we?!

Luke picking out his pumpkin...in shorts and a t-shirt.  We had to leave the pumpkin patch earlier than expected because he was a sweaty mess.

Luke's first pumpkin carving experience.  Okay, this kid plays in the dirt ALL day long.  Just 2 days ago, I thought he was walking around with a rock in his hands...15 minutes later I decide to see what is so special about this rock and why  he won't put it down....the rock was actually a frog.  He is fearless and gross and dirty (all said lovingly).  BUT....he would not touch the pumpkin goo...his face wrinkled and his shoulders shuddered in disgust.  So funny!
Action shot.  He had no problem attacking it with the spoons.

Okay, now here is the mistake. Luke decided to be a dog for Halloween (and by "decided" I mean I showed him a bunch of pictures in a catalog and he pointed at the dog and said "woof woof woof").  I knew I could make the costume myself (and by "make" I mean buy sticky felt pieces and cut them out and stick them to a sweatshirt).  Super cute!  However, my mind wandered to my childhood memories of Halloween (see above) and I went on my crafty way "making" his costume.  The day before our Halloween party with the kiddos I realized that perhaps being dressed as a dog in a hooded sweatshirt in 85 degree Florida heat was not such a great idea.  Lord knows you have seen how often Luke is diaper clad because it seems to be too warm for clothes of any kind.  There was no way he was going to last 3 hours at a party in this getup.  So....because I slaved over the costume (and by slaved I mean 30 minutes of my precious time) I made sure to put him in it for a good 5 minutes.  He was a sweaty mess afterwards but at least you can see how cute of a dog he makes!
"Mom, I am no meteorologist but it is way too hot for this ensemble!"

 "Woof Woof"

Mesmorized by the neighbor's tractor...I could not get him to look at the camera  no matter what I did.  He has priorities.

 Naptime is fast approching.

There are no words.  Super duper cute!

Thanks to Aunt Daney plan B was simple.  Luke got doctor pajamas from Aunt Daney for Christmas last year and they are currently a perfect fit.  Trick-or-Treat it is Dr. McCutie!

Pointing out a bug to his friend Lucas.

Daddy + Luke + a bounce house = Smiles galore and a very tired Daddy

And one for the road....

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!
