Luke's spring break was full! Full of friends and fun and fishing and food and more fun! He and his buddies were so busy for the entire week! Our yard was often littered with bikes and scooters and that gem of a shopping cart which is still providing hours of entertainment and near injuries when they take that thing down the hills. Teenagers. Ugh. Our front door was in constant motion with kids coming and going and the house was full of laughter and shenanigans.
It was a very quiet Easter Sunday for Team Tully. Unfortunately we couldn't make it
to WV this year. We do love our
springtime visit but L's schedule this semester has just been insane!
He has worked every weekend of the semester and the class schedule has just been
brutal. However, Granny and Papaw made sure that Luke had all the Easter treats! Thank you. He is such a lucky kid!
The next photos are a series highlighting the Peep. I cannot stand Peeps (or marshmallows of any kind really). Luke has Peeps once a year. He loves them and then he says he is good until next year. Here he is opening this year's packet of Peeps.
Remembering them fondly and anticipating the sugar overload.
Pure sugar joy!!! Love it!
Luke made a lemon cake and I iced it. L grilled steaks and asparagus and we ate like kings! We also took a long family hike. We missed the family time in the mountains but we did our best to make it special here.
The day before Easter I ran a race. It absolutely poured the entire time and it was 39 degrees. And to think I was concerned that it would be too warm in early April for me to run. Ha! I love this picture. I look like a drowned rat but I am SO HAPPY. This is what joy looks like! This race was downtown so L and Luke put on their raincoats to come cheer for me along the course and because I was running for a while they also went to the geology lab on campus to get some work done. #Multitasking
I took Luke and three of his best buddies to the beach! This trip is what spring break dreams are made of! These 4 boys had the BEST time! It was nonstop laughter and craziness and just so much fun! They were so busy and constantly in motion. As always we are SO grateful to Ima and Shesh for their generosity in allowing us to stay at their house!
Hilton Head is known for its bike trails and it is the perfect way for these kids to have independence and explore and wander. I can only imagine how many miles they put on these bikes.
I did warn them that there would be a few occasions when I would 'make' them pose. An afternoon at the pool. The water temperature was 64 degrees. These crazy kids did not care.
Okay, so this is not a great picture but I just wanted to put this on record. I wrote the following in the notes section of my phone in real time because I wanted to make sure that this moment was remembered:
'I am sitting at the pool, air temperature is 70 degrees, water temperature is 64 degrees. Four teenage boys who courageously went swimming and are finally finished shivering and drying out in the sun. They came up with, what from the outside looks like the most ridiculous version of 'monkey in the middle', but ridiculous or not they have been playing this poolside game for close to an hour. I am wearing jeans and a sweatshirt because I'm old and can no longer handle a breezy 70 degree day and just watching. I brought a book to read. A book I am really enjoying. But I find myself just watching these boys. Listening to them laugh hysterically, watching the celebratory dances, and the frustrated/hilarious roasting of each other. I am an avid reader and I love books, but there is no book on the planet that could take my attention away from watching my son and his three best friends just living and enjoying each other and their one precious life.'
There is just so much good in simplicity.
Fishing in their pajamas?! Yes, please!
Meal discussions are my favorite! Also, these kids can eat!
Again, not a single care for water temperature! Boogie boarding for hours!
And it wouldn't be an HH trip without at least a little golf
Beautiful spring weather means dining al fresco! Also, Team Tully does not mess around with burger night, go big or go home!
I tried to make eating grilled pork chops a fancy experience.Children in the house. All the time. At least they are old enough now to cook for themselves. Although the two in the back are playing indoor basketball - apparently they were on the cleanup crew.
Family games! A shout out to 'K and S Dubz' for the introduction to this gem of a game all those years ago! We love it!
A Luke versus Mom chess match. I am not a huge fan of chess and I am a horrible at it (which is probably why I am less of a fan). However, if my kid asks if I will play chess with him after dinner, the answer is ALWAYS yes!!! (I lost in record time).
This handsome fella knocked it out of the park at a poster session held on campus! He is brilliant and humble and just a rock star student and teacher! The accolades are endless. We are SO proud!
Gosh, I love us! (Please note the name of this place "Aunt Tique and Uncle Junk's"). She has been my friend for 25 years and my life is better because she is in it. Love.
Our springtime has been busy and there is still so much more to come but we are here for it all and we hope your days have been bright and beautiful too!
