Quarantine 2020: Volume 2

Here we are.  Still here.  Still coping, managing, embracing, thanking, wondering, wandering, learning, resting, doing, being.  We are well.  We hope you are too!  Life has been different but good.  Perhaps that is how we will look back at this in the years to come...different for sure but very very good.  We stay home so others can do what they need to do, we stay home because that is where we belong, we stay home because we are together, we stay home because it is the right thing to do, we stay home for others and for ourselves.

School days at home.  I can't help myself, I try very hard to get him away from the computer screen and the pencil and paper.  It is extra but it is good.  We are learning about weather frontal systems!

Jasper is now the "school" mascot!

The relationship between climate and latitude - there was even a brief exercise routine to go with this particular lesson.  Sometimes a little ridiculousness goes a long way with knowledge retention!

World War II in the form of Axis and Allies with Daddy!
There are some days when I think "Poor Luke" and some days when I think "Lucky Luke" when I think about these homeschool days.

Luke made brownies after "school" one day.  From start to finish.  Zero help.  This photo was taken outside the kitchen.  I did nothing.  This is the clean up stage.  The brownies were delicious!

The never-ending game.  Not to worry, the Allies won

We are outside ALL THE TIME!  Mostly close to home but we wandered a little farther towards the river on this day.

A dear friend of mine gave me this idea and I think it will be a forever keepsake.  TOGETHER - what a powerful word.  Love!

This is how I read books now.  My book traditionalist self is having kind of a hard time with it but I am already on my third quarantine ebook and I am very very thankful for this technology!

Easter egg dyeing!  A big THANK YOU to both sets of grandparents for making Easter extra special this year!

We are an outdoor loving family - always have been and we are always thankful for beautiful weather but never more so than in the past month.  Clear skies make for healthy minds and healthy bodies.

Our newest Trash to Treasure find!!  L and I take great pride in the fact that we have NEVER purchased a grill.  Not one.  All of our grills have come from other peoples' trash.  This beauty is no exception.  We were in the market for an upgrade and my early morning dog walk led me to this.  She (do we give grills pronouns?  I found her so I will call her "she/her") was about a half mile from our house but because we have no shame and will do just about anything for a deal like this L and I   (Luke was there too but had Jasper and was completely mortified that his parents are wheeling a gigantic grill across the neighborhood at 8:15 in the morning....and let's say it was anything but a quiet endevour!!!!) pushed this thing on uneven pavement all the way home!

Luke doing his part in the grill sprucing up project.  We scraped and cleaned it and it works just fine!  So excited for our first meal!

 He can still fit!

So many games!!  We play a game (or 2 or 3) every day : -)

When small projects become big ones.
Story of our quarantine life!

 Me and Luke
Gonna give myself a pat on the back for this one....a while ago I signed up to run a 10k trail race (I was inspired by our early morning trail runs in Sedona).  It was scheduled for early April.  It was of course cancelled.  But I ran it anyway.  It felt good.

Seriously, we have been outside more than inside these days!

Me and my co-chef made a lemon cake for Easter.  We are both wearing handmade aprons.  I made mine is 6th grade HomeEc class and Luke made his with Ima a year or two ago.

 A dozen beauties!

Easter Sunday.  We did not get dressed up.

We are holding an egg drop challenge.  This is Luke working hard on his creation.  We will drop from our only second floor window onto the driveway.  Rules are:  no trial drops and no parental assistance.

Like seemingly every other person in the country I made bread!  From scratch.  No mixer, only kneading by hand.  I LOVED the process!  And it is delicious!  Our little family ate an entire loaf with our dinner one night!

Jasper had a playdate with 7 week old Molly.  These two could not be cuter!

Quarantine Tully Tidbits:

1.  I am branching out a bit in the culinary world.  I've got the time and the boys have the interest and are very open to new things.  Lots of Asian themed meals have graced our kitchen table lately.
2. Luke very much misses school. He misses his classmates, his teachers, the schedule.  He has mentioned this a few times in the last 10 days.  :-(
3. Jasper is the quarantine's #1 fan.
4. We are more connected and engaged with our neighbors than ever before.  Again so very thankful for where we live!
5. I tend to bristle against technology, at least too much of it, but this situation has made me more aware of the positive aspects and benefits of being able to stay in touch, to connect. Luke just the other day played Pokemon against Jeffrey...hundreds of miles away but still very much able to connect and be a part of each other's lives.  A good thing.
6. L and I have watched Tiger King.  We will never be the same.
7. We had fish the other night and Luke said..."this meal reminds me of Portugal."  L and I smiled from ear to ear.  It made our hearts so happy for him to have that memory and then we talked about our time abroad for the entire meal.  Good for the soul...we took a trip back without ever leaving the table.
