What a weekend!! Team Tully hit the road and headed to the mountains for our very first family camping trip. It was, without a doubt, the best family weekend ever!! I love to camp. I love it I love it I love it. It brought back so many memories for me. I grew up in a camping family - some families are Disney World families and some families are National Park families. I have been to Yellowstone WAY more times than I have been to Disney. I just love being in an environment that wasn't created for the sole purpose of human entertainment. L and I had been camping a few times before we had Luke but having Luke there, in all of his 3 year old glory, was by far the greatest camping trip ever!
We had to move Luke's breakfast outside while we packed up the car so he would actually eat. He was beyond excited!
The lake view from our picnic table. We hiked up and down this hill countless times and Luke did not need any "hiking help." Let that be known. ;)
The sleeping arrangements were a little tight but it did get chilly so no one minded snuggling up. This is the tent I have had since the infamous backpacking trip of summer 1999!! (JY, are you reading this?!?!) This tent has been many many places and I love it!
My favorite boys! Luke was obsessed with fishing. We didn't catch a single thing. Luke found hundreds of minnows though and spent his day feeding them cheese. :)
On our way back to the campsite for lunch we found these guys. L spotted them, I took a picture, and Luke chased them back into the woods. Teamwork.
Luke requested to eat his lunch in the tent. L and I dined overlooking the lake at the picnic table. I can't remember a turkey and cheese sandwich ever tasting so good.
See that speck of orange?! That is Luke and L kayaking. They were out there forever - L says many fish and turtle and geese discussions were had.
"Home Sweet Home" - that is honestly what Luke called it! I don't really consider car camping "real" camping but this was simply the most perfect first family camping trip possible. Luke was a dream and loved every second of it. He even fell off the picnic table bench and landed face first in the gravel. He winced and requested a bandaid so he could "keep looking for a fire stick."
Beef jerky fireside?!?! One of life's greatest pleasures! Like father like son.
"Did you know that I will make my OWN dinner?"
Luke's first s'more = success!
Me and my sidekick! This trip brought back lots of childhood memories for me but it also brought back memories of Luke as a baby. I have said it a thousand times - he was NOT an easy baby (please read - nightmare baby!). However, he could almost always be calmed and soothed by a trip outside. Just standing on the massive Arrowhead porch or a walk down the country road would silence him and make him relax. The outdoors are like magic for this little guy. Some things never change. He was so content and so happy and so relaxed the entire trip. He was in his element and you could tell. We love our little nature boy!
Our breakfast view - majestic
On our way to fish - morning fog still lifting off the lake.
I simply cannot wait for more camping trips. It is a lot of work to gather the gear, pack the gear, set up the gear, and take down the gear but I would do it every single weekend just to spend quality time with my family. The outdoors is the world's greatest classroom.
